Meet The Blogger | The Kitchen Prescription
Posted on September 29th, 2013 by JeanI’d love to introduce you to my favorite bloggers, so I am started a new series called Meet The Blogger.

I first met Sherri of The Kitchen Prescription on MySpace around 2006. Her smile is infectious, her posts are inspiring, her love of family is immediately evident, and her beauty, both inside & out, shines. Over the years, she has evolved and really come into her own as a Food Blogger. I am proud to call her a friend.
You can follow Sherri / The Kitchen Prescription on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter.
Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a food blogger?
A: I guess you can say I stumbled upon it. I began blogging on MySpace almost 7 years ago about struggles I was facing at that particular time in my life. I had recently ended a 20 year unhealthy marriage and suddenly packed up and moved to Florida with what belongings would fit in my car to begin a new chapter in life. It was so out of character for me to do such a thing. In the beginning, blogging was a way for me to emotionally heal. As everyone made the switch from MS to FB, I needed a place to continue blogging, so I went to WordPress and began blogging there. One day, I was bored and had no material to blog about so I blogged about my chili recipe. Something just clicked at that moment. I knew I had found my “blogging zone” and quickly developed a passion for it. I also began experimenting with baking and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. I taught myself from YouTube videos and other blogs. It opened up a whole new world and healed me from the inside out. I have been a food blogger for almost 3 years now. Time flies when you’re in the kitchen!
Q: What has been your most popular recipe?
A: My most popular recipe is a copycat recipe for a chain restaurant mac and cheese. But I can’t really count that, because all I did was blog about a recipe I found online and made a few adjustments to it and snapped some photos. My second most popular original recipe believe it or not, is a school cafeteria favorite, Old School Lunch Lady Hamburger Gravy.
Q: Your photography is amazing. Do you have a tip for successfully photographing food?
A: Food photography is constantly a work in progress. There is so much to learn. I’m no photography expert by any stretch of the imagination. I either use my trusty yet convenient iPhone camera or my Canon Powershot. Although, at this stage, I’ve been looking into purchasing a DSLR. The most important tip I can offer about food photography is light, light light! Natural light is always best, and never, never, ever use a flash. I learned that the hard way.
Q: You were researching shipping your baked goods and selling them locally. How is that going, and will we see an online store in the future?
A: I did entertain the idea of shipping my cupcakes in jars, however, that sort of fizzled out. I let the “failure bug” sneak into my brain and thought of a thousand excuses why it wouldn’t work. I know that’s so bad. I’m working on that. I do however occasionally get orders for baked goods from friends and family. So I guess you can say I’m selling locally. Florida is one of the states that passed the Cottage Food Act, where you are allowed to bake in your home and sell for profit. I think it’s a great idea for stay at home moms and people who aren’t able to join the workforce for whatever reason. As for the online store, only the future will tell. I do have a dream of having my own little bakery. There’s something about getting up early in the morning to bake in my own shop that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Q: What one appliance or baking tool would you recommend for someone who wants to expand their cooking/baking horizons?
A: I’m such a kitchen appliance and gadget freak/geek. I’ve run out of room in our kitchen for all of my appliances, gadgets and photography props. So much so, that it has spilled out into a large metal cabinet in the garage. If someone were to say to me today, “Sherri, you can save only one appliance or gadget in your kitchen… what will it be?” I would without a doubt go to my KitchenAid Stand Mixer, grab it and run! It’s by far my favorite and most used appliance in the kitchen. Or maybe I’m soft on it because when I got into baking and food blogging my boyfriend overheard me casually mention how I wanted one and surprised me that Christmas with shiny candy apple red one. Most women hate appliances as gifts…me? I love em!
Sherri, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions.
