Bellagio and Ka

Posted on April 11th, 2008 by Jean

She’s returned to Portland, but last week my best friend from high school, Joy, and her husband, Cimber, were here.

I don’t want to be one of those people who track down the nicest bathrooms, but…

check out the ladies room at the House of Blues.

All that COLOR and steel.

I was so busy drinking my Sex Before Sunrise, I neglected to snap pictures of my meal.

With 1 drink under my belt, we caught a cab and ventured down to the Bellagio.

They had a lovely springtime display in the garden area.

Look at the fragile edges of this flower. They almost don’t look real!

There was a gorgeous rose-covered snail, a tree with a face, and a giant ladybug.

Large watering cans splashed the flowers.

There was also a beautiful little butterfly habitat.

Currently on display at the Bellagio are Cirque inspired sculptures.

These are by an artist named Richard MacDonald.

In the evening, we caught the Ka show at the MGM.

As you enter the theatre lobby, Ka musicians are playing an unusual instrument… amplified string?

The show was wonderful! No photography was allowed inside once the show had started, but here are some pictures I found on the internet back in January when Joy and I saw the show for the first time.

After the show, we drove the 90 minutes back to my home.

That concludes day one.

Decompressing with a Musical

Posted on April 7th, 2008 by Jean

I’m trying to decompress after entertaining guests for 5 days.

Last night we watched Across The Universe, a musical with lyrics by The Beatles.

The movie gave me a whole new appreciation for The Beatles’ songs. To see their words come to life was very moving.

One of the songs has been stuck in my head all day. T.V. Carpio’s version of I Want To Hold Your Hand. Here is a clip if you’d like to watch it.

I’ll understand if you don’t push play. I have to admit, I don’t always watch imbedded videos. For me, it’s because when my daughters see & hear something coming from the computer, they have a tendency to take it over! Next thing you know, I’m watching youtube clips of Spongebob, the Gummy Bear Song, or the Hamster Song!

Joe Cocker is in this movie. When I think of him, I can’t help but think of John Belushi.

Remember how John used to impersonate Joe? That makes me laugh.

Bono is also in this movie. He is so classic. I don’t think I could ever tire of his voice.

Eddie Izzard also appears. You may know him better as a stand up comedian who dresses in male & female attire. Well, that’s what it says in his bio.

I hope to catch up on all my blog reading soon. I tried to stay on top of it, but I know I’ve missed a few.

Have a terrific night! And, as always, thanks for reading!

My Life – The Finale

Posted on March 30th, 2008 by Jean

My Life ~ Part 1
My Life ~ Part 2
My Life ~ Part 3
My Life ~ Part 4

I want to thank all of you who reached out to comfort me after I posted Part 4. I thought I could just *talk* about my life, and not be affected by emotion. But, well, that wasn’t the case. Thank you.

My Life ~ Part 5

I had just started a new job as a typesetter for a publishing company. I also had just been given the news that my In Vitro Fertilization had failed. That devastating loss was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I turned to one of my bosses for consoling. Tom. Yes, my Tom. We fell madly in love.

The thing about love is, baby makes three.

I know we didn’t do things in socially acceptable order, but we did get things done. It was a long process, clearing the way for our love.

Wedding Night 2003

We moved in together. George filed for divorce. Tom and his business partner reached an agreement on how to split their assets. Yes, there was a LOT of drama. The police were involved: George pulled a gun on me when I told him I was leaving. The courts were involved: Natalie had to go through DNA testing to prove Tom was her father. Her birth certificate had to be corrected because, in the state of Arizona, your husband (who was not the father) must go on the certificate. We were tied up in the courts for several years just straightening that out. Tom bought his partner out of the business, and April (2008) marks the 1st time in 5 years that we are free & clear of that debt.

Tom and I were married in December of 2003, and Pearl was born in December of 2004.

We continue to love eachother and live in happiness with mutual respect and adoration.

We two middle-aged adults have been given the opportunity of a lifetime, to be parents at long last!

Maybe that’s why we spoil them, because we waited so long for them to enter our lives.

All I know is that I’ve never been happier. I feel so blessed!

So please remember to never give up. Life is a long journey, with many ups and downs. I’m grateful to have gone through the lows so I can so appreciate the highs.

That concludes My Life series. Thank you for hanging in there when I never even knew how I was going to put this into writing. Sorry to have glossed over the low-lights of this blog, but I cannot put myself into that black hole again at this time. I want to think of the positive, and move forward. If I can help anyone in any way with further details of my story, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for reading!
