Another Vegas Photoblog ~ Paris

Posted on January 30th, 2008 by Jean

Sunday Sunny and I made it to Vegas by early afternoon. We had a BEAUTIFUL room at the Paris hotel & casino.

Here’s a picture of the Tower from our window.

That’s Bellagio across the street.

Nice beds, nice armoire, NICE MINI-BAR!!!!

I like mini bars.

We trekked (no pun intended) over to the Hilton to check out the Star Trek Experience.

The museum features more than 200 Star Trek items, including these beauties…

Recognize some of these props?

The Klingon Encounter was fun, but broke down in the middle of our experience! The shuttle malfunctioned, and we had to evacuate and return to the Captain’s Bridge. Everyone was supposed to stay in the designated area, but we pretty much ran amuck.

The little trekkies were telling people to not take pictures, get out of their seats, stop leaning on the furniture, stop pushing buttons!

It didn’t help matters that the rides let out at Quarks Bar.

We heard a few chants for Romulan Ale! Romulan Ale!
Drunk bastards. LOL!!

After enjoying the rides, we checked out the Hilton gift shops. I fell in love with this adorable Fuzzy Couture hat, but not the price tag of $65.00.

But I found it today on ebay, and snatched it up for $29.00! Wahoo!!

Sunny bought a gorgeous ring! These lucite rings I found on Etsy.com are similar, but not as striking as hers.

Sunday evening, we enjoyed the comedians at the Tropicana’s Comedy Stop. John Roy was hilarious!!

Check out his MySpace Profile to see a clip of his performance on the Tonight Show last week!

After the show, we made our way back to our hotel and our room.

That concludes Day 1.

Why I’m Unique

Posted on January 19th, 2008 by Jean

1) I have a lot of nail polish.

(Some came from my sister, Sunny.)

2) My first marriage lasted 6 months. It took another 6 months for California to grant us a divorce.

While we’re on the subject of my first ex, can I tell you something odd about him?
He had 6 toes on one foot! No kidding. He won a lot of bets in school.

3) I don’t know cleavage etiquette.

Being flat-chested til after the birth of my 2nd daughter 3 years ago, I don’t know the appropriate amount of cleavage to show! Typically, if I feel like I’m showing too much, I put on a wife-beater underneath the low-cut shirt or dress.

4) After a trip, I like to leave reviews at Trip Advisor.

I also like to visit their Las Vegas Forum to lend a hand if I can. They’ve sent me a free t-shirt and baseball cap for my efforts.

5) I did all my Christmas shopping online.

I still get about 20 emails a day for sales or specials.

6) I’m 50% Portuguese.

I grew up eating soupa (also called sopa), fava beans, and linguisa.

7. I can spread my toes like a monkey.

If you look hard, you can find that gold nail polish in the pile up there!

8. I use green make-up to keep my cheeks from looking too red (darned rosacea).

9. I didn’t become a Mom until the ripe (old) age of 39.

10. Ummmm… I don’t know Geography!

must have missed that class because I know a couple of states on the map and that’s it.

Let me know if you’re tagging yourself so I can read all about you!

Star Trek Party

Posted on January 16th, 2008 by Jean

I know what you’re saying. Did she or didn’t she wear that Star Trek outfit? Well, technically yes, I wore it, but no, I chickened out and did not wear it to the party! I looked too much like the girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who turns into a blueberry!

So the theme of my brother’s birthday party was Outer Space. To give their party that spacey feel, they wrapped the furniture in foil.

Yes, Captain Picard was there! That’s my brother as Captain Kirk.

The food served was all of my brother’s favorites: pepperoni pizza, popcorn balls, sugar cookies, potato chips, olives, quesadillas, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, gingerbread cookies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, lemon pie and chocolate pie.

There were relatives there I hadn’t seen in 10 years! Cousins with children already in high school. Even 4 classmates from my brother’s high school showed up! It was like, This Is Your Life!

I should have taken more pictures, but it was kind of like the twilight zone, seeing all these old (you know what I mean) faces.

At one point, we were all given our boarding passes

Glow stick wristbands.

… and took a trip to the moon!

Ok, actually, they projected a Disney Moon Ride film onto the wall.

Mr. Disney, special effects have certainly improved since 1954! Wow, what a cheesey movie!

So, it was a lot of fun, and I’m glad I went. It was the first time I’ve gone to one of their themed parties. Next time, I hope to bring Tom and the kids!
