Project Runway ~ Let The (drinking) Games Begin!

Posted on August 21st, 2009 by Jean

Last night was the premier of Project Runway. What a virtual PR sandwich with it’s 2-hour All Star Challenge lead-in and it’s Models of Project Runway post show. Three and a half hours of juicy goodness!

During the show I paused the program so my girls could sketch the models.

It’s hard to give your full attention to a show, even one you adore, for 3.5 hours. We made it about 75 minutes before the first melt-down. Pearl ran out of paper, and *borrowed* Natalie’s stack, which made Nat inconsolable.

Adding in intermissions to:
1. order pizza;
2. let the pizza man in;
3. watch Tom do a slow-motion dance in front of the big screen;
4. let the kids change clothes;
5. watch the kids model
made for a very long evening indeed!

At night’s end, Heidi wished me auf vidersein, while Tom and the kids snoozed.

For adult viewers, it’s time for the
Season 6 Drinking Game!

Last year’s words included the classic Suede, Leatha and Holla atcha boy!

It’s early in the game, so let’s start with Tim Gunn saying, Designers. I’ll update the list as the season progresses. No doubt we’ll be tossing back a full beer or glass of wine by the finale!

• What word(s) would you add to the drinking game?
• What did you think of this silver honeycomb dress?
• If you weren’t watching Project Runway, what were you doing?

Thanks for reading!

Sip When They Say:
• Designers
• Make it work!
• Carry on.

Bonus Round:
• Sob story / tears – 2 shots!

Alice Might Be For You

Posted on August 11th, 2009 by Jean

After hearing about Alice.com on the Clark Howard Show, I wanted to check it out for myself. Alice is a beta site (aka test site) which sells name brand products at a reduced rate. Shipping within the United States is free. Your shopping cart must contain at least 6 items prior to check-out.

I have to admit, it took me about 3 visits to Alice before I had 6 items in my cart. Off the top of my head, I couldn’t think of what I needed. Their little blue ducks taunted prompted me to pick my brand of shampoo, soap, band-aids, etc. It was daunting!

When I’m low on toiletries, I typically run down to Target. If I want to save big and don’t mind driving to the other side of town, I’ll visit Sam’s Club. I decided to compare a few products available online at Alice with a 4-6 day turn-around and available locally with immediate turn-around.

Price Comparison

Alice: $1.36 (after .50 cent coupon)
Target: $2.24

Alice: $9.19 (after $1.00 coupon)
Target: $12.99
Sam’s Club: $12.86

Alice: $5.29
Target: $4.99

Alice: $9.69
Target: $9.99

Alice: $9.69 each
Sam’s Club: $15.88 for three

Alice: $5.62 each
Target: $5.99 each
Sam’s Club: $15.60 for three

Some of Alice’s prices can’t be beat, not even by the bulk/discount store! So I’ve loaded up my cart, processed my order, and am waiting for delivery.

• In this rough economy, how are you cutting costs?
• Where do you find the best prices?
• Are you brand loyal, or find yourself reaching for the lowest priced item no matter the brand?

Mini-Challenge #3: Blog Link PLUS JEWELS

Posted on August 4th, 2009 by Jean

Mini-Challenge #3: GIVE went well. I gave away 5 out of 7 PhotoShop User magazines. If you are interested in receiving one of the remaining mags, Click Here.

Accepting the challenge is Rissy’s Jewels. Follow the link for entry rules. Three lucky winners will choose from a wide selection of fun jewelry valued up to $15.00. Here are some pieces I have my eye on.

Since we’re on the topic, let’s talk jewelry. Aside from my wedding ring and stud earrings, I wear little jewelry. A couple of years ago when our financial situation was better, I invested in a few playful pieces that I truly adore.

Elizabeth Brady

Bamboo and semiprecious stone bangles.

Robyn Rhodes

The *Rita* Necklace as seen on HBO’s Entourage and on me.

Victoria Wieck

Citrine and White Topaz cocktail ring.

• What are your favorite pieces of jewelry?
• Is jewelry for every day or special occasions?
• Do you notice when others are wearing jewels?
