River Regatta
Posted on August 22nd, 2010 by Jean
I’m so proud of Tom (above in yellow shirt) for filming the Bullhead City River Regatta 2010. He took great video of the festivities. It was originally estimated that 11,000 participants floated nine miles down the Colorado River between Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona. Now numbers are closer to 15,000 people floating for 3-4 hours in 109° heat.
If you’d like to take part next year, visit the regatta’s official website or like it on FaceBook.
It took me a few days to edit the 90 minutes of video down to 4 minutes of highlights. So far, we’ve had over 3,000 views on YouTube. Everyone has been very positive, stating how much fun they had or how they won’t miss it next year.
If I were to float down the river, I’d need a buoyant tube, good friends, and cold beverages.
• Would you rather hover or float?
• If floating, what would you need to enjoy your day?

Hi Jean, Great video! I would rather float and would need some strong sunscreen, strong drinks and good friends.

Thanks, Sunny! Yes, Long John Silver had a nice inflatable boat, and the ship from the Naked Pirate was nice too! Looks like some people had stages and bars. LOL!

I’m sure Jeff Foxworthy told a tale about about floating down a river drinking beer, hmmm, must have a look for that story again……
I think floating looks fun,
Thanks for the comments, if you have sirius in your car, try BBC radio 1 on there, see if you like some British radio !

I’ve never heard of this event. It looks like everyone was having such a good time. I can’t believe is was 109` You did some great editing on this piece. I’m trying to learn how to edit on my video software, it isn’t easy. But I press forward… Thanks for sharing and good luck with your vision.

Gareth – I will look for that station. Cool!
Chaplain Donna – Thank you for your comments. It was sweltering hot. Not sure what editing software you are using, but the iMovie program for MAC is wonderful.

Hi Jean, Great Video Job well done! Looks like a lot of fun amazing so many people. Perfect song choice. I Like your new theme. Are the ads new as well? I would rather float then fly.;+) I would probably bring a little unbrella so I wouldn’t fry in the sun. Congrats on a successful video.

Thank you, Starla! I enjoyed your video too! We must be in a video frame of mind. 🙂
I switched from wordpress (dot) com to wordpress (dot) org so I could have more freedoms including a few ads. The little “tooth fairy” ad is my sister-in-law’s.
Ahhhh, an umbrella would be so nice on a hot summer’s day.
We actually had to pull the video from YouTube as the pilot is undergoing an FAA investigation. They think he may have violated some rules about how low you can fly.

Ohhh! I was the FIRST! Yippie! I had to come back and look at the helicopter shot again. I just love it. That is the coolest! The song on the video is so perfect. I think I want to revise my answer to be on one of those BIG barge floats or jumping off the trampoline one.
He did a great job filming. You did a great job editing. 🙂

Hi Angelia! You know what I’m missing? The reply to reply! I’ll have to investigate.
Thank you for coming back! I love that helicopter shot too. Found it on Flickr the same day as the regatta event. Great photog.
The big barges do lool like the way to go! LOL! Oh man, that trampoline! There were 3 guys on it, but the 2 pushed 1 guy off. That didn’t make the movie. Hahahahaha.
Thanks so much!

Nice! I’d definitely rather be floating with one float for me and one float for my cooler! Of course friends are a requirement as well. We’ve done it a few times before and always had a blast. I loved the video, thanks so much for sharing your experience!

Julie, you have braved a river float? That’s cool! I’ve pretty much stayed in a non-flowing environment with the tube, and that was eons ago. Yes, a galaxy far-far away (or so it seems).
You’re so welcome.
Enjoy your weekend!
I may have to try that drunken banana bread. Sweets & booze = I’m all over that.

Jean, nice work on the video. That looked like an awesome time. Truth be told Tom looked like a hottie in the chopper…lol bet you had a hard time keeping your hands to yourself. You and Tom are one of the coolest couples I know. If my boyfried and I ever make it out that way I’m going to look you up and see if you and Tom wanna meet up a a drink! I swear we’re not serial killers.
I’d rather be a floater than hoverer. I’d need a girly raft for sure and some cool beverages and some good friends/family to make it more fun.

Sherri, thanks! For the compliments on the video AND my hottie hubby. 🙂 We will look you up if/when we get to FL. I’d love to meet for a cocktail!
I hope your raft is bigger than the ones you bought this summer. LOL!

That looks like a fun time on the river. We live down here in Texas near the other end of the Colorado river (right where it dumps into the gulf of Mexico.) It seems like a completely different river down here than the Colorado river of your part of the country.

Thanks, Julie! We’re practically river-neighbors. 🙂
We both have the extreme heat though by the sound of your latest blog.

Not totally true. As I edited last year’s video footage, I only saw one “flash”.
