San Diego Vacation – Day 1
Posted on July 4th, 2011 by Jean
We just returned from a quick trip to San Diego. From the minute we pulled up to the harbor and saw this incredible ship, we knew our vacation had begun.
The Maritime Museum of San Diego currently has three ships and two submarines on display. Tour tickets range from $8-$14, but it costs nothing to view the ships from land.
Personally, you wouldn’t catch me inside a submarine. Nothing against subs. I just wouldn’t want to be in a confined space anywhere let alone submerged in the ocean.
A short walk from the museum and also on the harbor is Anthony’s Fish Grotto. Looking at their website, I see they were voted Best Seafood 14 years in a row. The girls and I grabbed a table, and Tom ordered us clam chowder, fried clams, chicken & fries, beer, wine and soda. Everything was delicious!

Hopping back into our vehicle, we went a short distance down the road to Seaport Village. We loved going through the shops, seeing the beautifully manicured landscaping, the twinkling lights wrapped around the trees, other tourists milling about, riding on the 100+ year old carousel, and choosing delicious treats at the Candy Shack.

We settled back into our hotel room wanting to get plenty of sleep for the next day’s excursion to Sea World.
To be continued.
• Do you have any summer vacations planned?
• Have you been to San Diego?
• Seafood – yeah or nay?

Jean, as you already know we just returned form a fun filled weekend from Disney’s Magic Kindom and Blizzard Beach Wterpark. We were originally supposed to visit Sea World but my sister and brother-in-law changed plans @ the last minute. Personally, I would have preferred Sea World, but we still had a great time. More importantly, I got to spend some quality time with my 2 year old nephew and sister and brother-in-law.
Looks like you all had a great time. I just adore cand shoppes!!! I truly become a child again in them. Can’t wait to read part two of your vacation. Vacations are awesome!!!

Sherri – I’m so glad you got away to Disney! Your nephew is a doll! Sister time is always fun. 🙂
OMgosh, I love candy shoppes too! Natalie got a rice krispy bar treat, and Pearl got speared marshmallows coated in chocolate and rolled in nuts. Simple & sweet treats.

Hi! I was on vacation too. But I was to the North. 🙂 I love ships! And your photo of the ship is so great! I wish I could shoot like that.

I haven’t ever been to San Diego, but I’ve only heard great things about the city and I plan to get there one day. Glad you had some fun family time over the weekend.
No summer vacation planned yet, but my husband was just saying that we need to plan a weekend trip soon. Summer is the busiest time of year for our business, so we don’t normally vacation during these months, but the stress is a little crazy. We’ll see.

Angie, I hope you & hubby can plan a quick get-away. You need a break, especially when you are working so hard.

I’m so happy to hear that your first day went great. You got some beautiful shots. And yes, Anthony’s has a yummy reputation. It’s my MIL’s favorite. I’ve been trying so hard to appreciate and experience my city and your post encourages me even more. I wish I would’ve been able to say hi at SW. How funny would it have been if you were one of the people (out of so many per day) that asked me for directions to…The bathroom, food, rides, Shamu….Etc. I can’t wait to see all the adventure you experienced here. The harbor is absolutely beautiful. My husband and I have talked about getting a room nearby so we can wake up and walk along the harbor.

Thanks Traci! Nothing like seeing your city through the eyes of another. I wonder if we passed you at work! I kept looking around, wondering if she was you. 🙂
Your idea for getting a room along the harbor sounds wonderful!
I’ll post Sea World pics as soon as I can. Work calls.

I love reading vacation recaps–one of my favorite blog topics.
I have been to San Diego before, but haven’t visited any of the places you went to, so it was extra nice to read about your trip. I loved the zoo and I hope you made it there on day 2.
I am not really into seafood, but I do love crabcakes. Then again, I just tried lobster for the first time 2 years ago!

Hi GFTG – We missed the zoo this time. I’ve got to get on the ball and post the Sea World adventure. Got sidelined by work.
You JUST tried lobster?! Oh my, I love lobster!
