Elvis Cupcakes

Posted on October 8th, 2009 by Jean

Maybe we shouldn’t be turning to Elvis for culinary inspiration. Regardless, The Cupcakery has transformed Elvis’ Bacon, Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwich into this Trip To Graceland cupcake. I’ll admit I was anxious to taste it.

I arrived an hour before closing, and bought one dozen cupcakes including the last 2 Elvi (plural of Elvis) available.

When I returned home with the goodies, my eldest daughter spotted an Elvis and called dibs. Her verdict: thumb up! Youngest daughter also took a bite earning Elvis his 2nd thumbs up. Hubby said he’d sample it in the morning with a side of eggs.

After seeming enamored with Elvis, the girls became bored and wandered off. I saw my chance to pounce!

• Bacon topping ~ crisp and smokey.

• Banana cream frosting ~ oh so sweet and banana-y!

• Chunky peanut butter cake ~ FAIL. No PB flavor. No chunks. Dense and dry, like cornbread.

I took a bite, wanting to try the combination of all 3 flavors. That didn’t help. The salty bacon and creamy banana trumped the weak peebee cake. I didn’t Love It Tender. I wished I had a Blue Hawaiian to wash it down. Anyone want a half-eaten cupcake? I was afraid of that. Return to Sender.

• Would you try the Elvis cupcake?
• How could this cupcake be improved?
• What other combinations would you like to see in a cupcake?

The Cupcakery has locations in Nevada and Texas.

Bathing Beauties and Bacon

WATER BABIES

I have water babies. My two girls heart LOVE heart water!

Yes, they’re cute & cuddly. Fondness for water is all good when it’s outside in the jacuzzi. But there is a menacing side.

It’s early morning. Everyone’s been fed. Spongebob is on the t.v. All seems normal. My mission: to take a shower…. alone!

It just isn’t humanly possible! The 2 little water nymphs have a 6th sense! They MUST join me in the shower. It is their goal in life.

They sneak in and soak up all the lovely shower spray, while I stand in the corner, surrounded in steam.

This phenomenon has been going on for at least two years. Here is a picture Natalie drew in 2006.

Don’t let her fool you. We do not have dual showerheads. Look how sad I am. Don’t look at my black nipples.

So I was searching google for some interesting shower images, and look what I found.

A Psycho Shower Curtain. How weird is that? Imagine taking a shower and seeing that silhouette.

Want to see another strange shower curtain I found?

That’s right. A raw steak shower curtain. Who is this for? Butchers?

While purusing the meaty website, I found these other clever items!

Bacon Band-Aids!

A Bacon Wallet!

Come on! Do these not scream out HAPPY FATHER’S DAY?If you must shop for meat-inspired products, here is the BaconAndMeat.com website! Have fun! And let us know what you bought!

Vegas Photoblog ~ Day 2

Day 2 ~ Part 1

I was going to make this one long blog, but I think it’d be better to break it down. Our second day was long, with lots of shopping & sightseeing. So, here is the first half of our day.

The second day of our Vegas vacation, we crossed the street to have breakfast at the Bellagio. It was all decorated for the Chinese New Year. The God of Wealth and Fortune greeted us at the entrance to the atrium.

Check out the topiary rat and the peaceful koy.

For breakfast, I had the crab cake benedict served high on a stack of hash browns.

I was too busy stuffing my face to take a picture of Sunny’s lobster omelet.

After eating, we walked next door to Caesars. Venturing over to the Forum Shops, the Sea Horse Bar and the Pussy Cat Dolls gambling area caught our eye.

Ok, I KNOW we just ate, but when we saw the gelato display, we HAD to have some!

I wish I could say it tasted as good as it looked, but mine was a bit.. uh… frosty. Not creamy. There’s another gelato storefront at Caesars that doesn’t focus so much on the display, but the taste & texture is exceptional.

On to FAO Schwarz to play on the piano from BIG.

We tried to mimic the facial expression of this style-head doll.

We found this cute little chocolate store, Vosges.

Talk about unusual chocolates!!

If you have a hankering for, say, a bacon bar, check out their website HERE.

To be continued.

Thanks for reading!
