San Diego Vacation – Day 1

Posted on July 5th, 2008 by Jean

Just over a week ago, Tom and I took the kids on vacation to San Diego. It’s a 5 hour drive for us, which makes it a pretty convenient vacation destination. A friend of ours recommended the Pacific Terrace Hotel, right on the beach.

See how the beds are placed inside a planter box? I will not go into the details of how many times we injured ourselves on those wooden bases.

We didn’t reserve a view room, but ended up getting a little slice of the ocean.

Have you noticed check-in times are getting later and later? We arrived right at our check-in time… 4:00 p.m. After bringing our bags up to our room, checking out the view, choosing beds, perusing the bathroom, we headed down to the beach.

Natalie was afraid of falling in, but Tom and Pearl ventured out to get their toes wet.

(See the surfer standing up on his board?)

The funny thing about that picture is that we never saw any surfers standing. Sure thing – I snapped one when I wasn’t paying attention!

Right down the beach from us was the Crystal Pier. Their waiting list is 8 months long.

In the evenings, they close the gated entry to this pier so only the cottage guests have access to it.

On our way to dinner, I snapped a bunch of photos. Here are 2 that I thought came out nice.

That overcast sky would trick me into not applying sun screen the next day. I should have known better. Good thing the kids slathered up.

Pacific Beach Shore Club was the perfect place to enjoy dinner! Beers and a Giant Lobster Quesadilla for Mom & Dad, Fish & Chips for Natalie, and Chip & Spicy Salsa for Pearl.

After dinner, we walked back to our hotel, and settled down for the evening. Tomorrow would be a busy day!

Fresh Beach

Posted on April 15th, 2008 by Jean

The opposite of Burro Poop Beach would have to be Fresh Beach.

I love these satellite images from google maps!

Before making our way to the fresher beach on Day 3, Tom had to do a bit of work. Part of Tom’s job is to take photos of houses for our clients’ ads in our real estate magazine. That morning, we had gotten a call about a riverfront house for sale. So our first stop after launching was down river a bit.

Isn’t that pretty? I’m sure it has a pretty price tag too!

Once we arrived at the beach, the kids built more sandcastles.

Tom even got into it. He likes to build the moats.

Here Joy puts sunscreen on Cimber’s back. Kind of looks like he’s doing a dance, huh?

After a few hours, we ran out of liquid beverages, so we scooted down river to Lazy Harry’s for lunch.

I put a couple of photos together so you can see our view.

Lunch was delicious!

After lunch, we made it back to our house, quickly showered & dressed just minutes before our babysitter arrived. We took our guests to the comedy show at The River Palms Casino in Laughlin.

It was a good deal, $14.95 per person. The comedians were pretty good. Not rip-roaring funny.

That concludes Day 3.

Boating on the Colorado River

Posted on April 13th, 2008 by Jean

Day 2 of my friends’ visit, we went boating. We found a great little beach in the Topock Gorge area which we dubbed Burro Poop Beach.

But Jean, why would you name it Burro Poop Beach?
Because of all the burro poop, that’s why!

Here my friend, Joy, swats at all the poop. I had to act fast ‘cuz she was really going to town!

The kids donned their Swim 1-2-3 suits and Natalie did a bit of wading.

Pearl found the water to be too cold, so she sat onshore and guzzled Gatorade.

Tom and Cimber watched the Lake Havasu Jet Boat Tour scream by.

I enjoyed beachtime with the kiddos.

The wee ones made sandcastles.

After a few hours, we jumped back into the boat and headed upstream.

Before taking the boat out of the water, we had lunch at the Topock Marina.

(Not my photos.)

That concluded Day 2.
