Frosty Paws

Posted on October 11th, 2011 by Jean

Last night at the grocery store, stuck to the Beggin’ Strips package, youngest daughter and I found a coupon for $1.00 off Frosty Paws – Ice Cream for Dogs! After the absurdity wore off, and we composed ourselves, we headed over to the frozen foods section and tracked down this new doggy treat.

We giggled all the way home with visions of offering hubby/daddy the doggy ice cream. Once in the door, we could barely contain ourselves. The dogs were happy to see us, and we were happy to peel the lid of the frozen concoction. Good thing hubby was doing chores and not sitting around waiting to be a guinea pig.

As the packaging promised, our dogs DID enjoy Frosty Paws! By the end, they were fighting over the empty cups, clearly jonesing for more.

As a one-time novelty treat that the whole family should get a kick out of, I’d say go for it. The dollar off coupon helped sway my decision. But at over $4.00 per box, I doubt we’ll indulge in the future.

Would you buy Frosty Paws for your dog?

A Dose of Reality

Posted on October 1st, 2011 by Jean

There’s not much I like more than being sucked into a reality show. I have a real addiction to mind-numbing reality t.v. I’ll record my favorites when they’re not on hiatus, like Project Runway, Flipping Out, Giuliana & Bill, Worst Cooks in America, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Next Food Network Star, and Design Star.

This week I caught three shows that were new to me. The first was Nail Files. Nail Files stars an entrepreneur, Katie Cazorla, as she builds her business, The Painted Nail, a boutique salon in southern California. As I tuned in, she was confronting a thieving employee and trying to fire her publicist all while launching her new line of nail polish. Her bubbly personality kept me enchanted whether she was greeting a celeb. who happened to stop by, or showing her fiance how to use his new Shark steam machine. I’m rooting for Katie to make it.

Nail Files airs on TVGuide Network. You can catch three episodes Sunday, October 9th at 11am EST.

The second show I caught was Sweet Genius. Oh my goodness, the host is a visual freak. I was distracted by how much eyeliner and mascara he was wearing. Then, when he opened his mouth, nothing but snobby remarks with a french accent emerged. Who’s the genius? Why do we care?

Sweet Genius is hosted by Ron Ben-Israel. He dares the entrants to create a dessert with unusual required ingredients inspired by objects which in no way resemble or remind one of a dessert. For instance, using potato chips, brie and dragon fruit, remind us of a pair of high heels. No matter what is presented, he’ll lift his bulbous nose and declare it unfit for human consumption. Yet, at the end, someone is crowned the Sweet Genius. Don’t waste your time.

Sweet Genius airs on the Food Network Thursdays 10pm/9pm central.

The third reality show I caught was Lizard Lick Towing. One word: scripted. I hate the obvious script in reality shows. The key players are Amy, Ronnie and Bobby. We can just lump the guys into one because I really couldn’t tell you who was who. Scene 1: Ronnie Bobby has to fly to Florida to repo. a boat because his scrawny little repo. friend can’t attempt it on his own. As Ronnie Bobby arrives at the beach, little friend calls and requests immediate help. Ronnie Bobby putt around on a boat for about an hour before spotting the delinquent boat owner. Cutting to the chase, Ronnie Bobbie leaps from a jet ski into the boat and tosses the driver overboard. Unbelievable. Meanwhile Amy is being yelled at by a couple whose car was towed at a company party. Her water breaks (did I mention she was pregnant?), and the verbally abusive couple apologizes and calls her an ambulance. Ronny Bobby catches the next flight home in time to kiss his new baby girl, Maggie May “Magpie” atop her scrumptious little head. Total waste of time.

Lizard Lick airs on TruTV Mondays at 9:30pm EST.

My Favorite iPhone Apps

Posted on May 19th, 2011 by Jean

You can get the iPhone 3GS for $49.00, which I what I recently did. The monthly service plan is actually $20 less than what I was paying on the original iPhone 2G ($40 compared to $60). Upgrades between the 2G and 3G include recording video and texting photos.

What’s the first thing I did when I received my new phone? Started downloading apps!

My Favorite Apps

When I have some down time, I visit Facebook to see what is up with all of my friends. It’s easy to add a photo or a location like I did when I was chowing down at In-N-Out Burger (pre-diet).

Yes, I’m digging being the Mayor of McDonalds. This app allows you to check in to local businesses, become Mayor, and take advantage of special offers. Newbie (first check-in) Specials include $2. off Arby’s Market Fresh sandwich and 20% off at RadioShack. You can opt out of FB/Twitter sharing if you’d like, meaning you don’t have to broadcast your whereabouts.

Hipstamatic really should have a post all to itself. It’s a cool photo filter program that helps you create amazingly fun photos. A few filters come with the app, and additional filters can be purchased.

The top game for me and my entire family would be Angry Birds. All of the versions. Free, upgraded, Seasons, Rio… they are all great. Rio just released an update, and has several updates scheduled. This newest update includes a Beach Volleyball level.

This app notifies you when there’s a sale on airfare. Tell the app which airport you fly out of, and it will send you great deals. Last year we flew to Sacramento for under $40 per person.

Want to know the latest about Arnold & Maria? TMZ is the app for celebrity news. You’ve heard of TMZ. They were the first to report Michael Jackson died, and the first to release photos of Rihanna. They provided pics of Tiger Woods’ smashed SUV. If you can’t pick up an Enquirer, download TMZ.

Hypnotic mind-play. Waiting in the doctor’s office? Play Bejeweled. Hubby watching football? Play Bejeweled. Kids want supervision in the shower? Play Bejeweled.

Kids, yes, I’ve got ’em. Sometimes they need to keep themselves busy like when we’re waiting on food at a restaurant, or waiting for the fireworks to start while camped out across the river from Laughlin. You will need apps for them too.

Kids’ Favorite Apps

Burp, Fart, Relief. Totally disgusting, just what kids like. Many foul burps, farts, sighs and screams from which to choose.

With the addition of the new Charlie character who has tiger’s blood, the pygmies survival rate decreases even more. You are the Pocket God, controlling the fate of the little island pygmies. You can strike them with lightening, have ants attack them, throw them in the volcano, drop them into the ocean and spear them. You can give them fish and coconuts, help them start a fire, show them a double rainbow across the sky. Good or bad, it’s up to you. Err, up to your kids, I mean!

Yes, you’ll want to take the phone away and compete with them on this app too. Jumping from platform to platform, avoiding aliens, grabbing a jet pack, it’s all fun!

Sometimes they just want to be mellow, coloring pictures. This is the app for that. They choose a scene and color it by tapping first a colored pencil and then the area of the screen to fill. Once all the white space is filled, a party horn plays.

Your app store is right on your iPhone, or you can visit the app store on iTunes.
