Trick-Or-Treating Old School

Last night we took the girls Trick-Or-Treating, door to door, old-school style like in our youth. This was the first time for our daughters who have in the past collected candy along the Laughlin Casinos’ River Walk. To say they were nervous is an understatement. We had to encourage them to ring that first doorbell. They got such a warm greeting, that it made subsequent bell ringing a breeze! Most thanked the girls for visiting, and some took photos of them. A few doors had a bowl of candy or colorfully bagged treats placed on the stoop.

We dubbed Pearl, “Aunt Sam” after one resident asked if she was Uncle Sam. Natalie stood wobbly on one leg in her flamingo pose after being mistaken too many times for a showgirl.

Tom met a pooch dressed like him.

Tom and I got a little misty-eyed watching our daughters enjoy Halloween the way we did when we were young. Although I must say, we never approached doors as exquisite as these! We really marveled at the beautiful homes in this private, gated community of Majestic Crest. We have clients here who allowed us access. One hour on one street and the girls’ bags were filled as were their hearts.

How was your holiday?

Oh Jean, I think that’s so AWESOME! I was beginning to think that old-school Trick or Treating was going OUT of style. But apparently this year, many people who I spoke to today said that they had TONS of Trick or Treaters this year. In fact, one of my dear friends in Florida ran out of candy because she had so many more than in past years.

    Yup, I would have too!

And by the way, your daughters costumes ROCKED!

Thanks so much for sharing your evening with us. Thoroughly enjoyed!

    Have a super weekend!

I thought old-school was out too, but am so glad it isn’t.
Thanks, Ron! I don’t know if they looked as fabulous as you in your pink wig though!
    Enjoy your weekend too!

  3. The girls looked fab, and they are growing so quickly! Love Tom’s shirt! I bet your girls were glad they got to experience that.

We left candy on the doorstep too because we weren’t going to be home. I was sure we were coming home to everything gone including the bowls. Not even half the candy was gone. I was kinda disappointed! lol

I always enjoy reading your family stories Jean.

    Hi Sherri! Thank you!
We were a little late getting out the door as the girls were coloring Tom’s shirt. LOL!
So smart to leave candy out. Glad you weren’t robbed! That happened to one of my girlfriends once. They took her Halloween decorations, plus a small table and chairs.

  4. That sounds like fun! I didn’t get too many kids this year. Its too bad really. Now I have a ton of candy left over that I might donate.
